چکیده

Maximum Likelihood (ML) estimation method for simultaneous amplitude, time delay, and data demodu-lation in direct sequence spread spectrum communication is proposed. The likelihood function is analytically intractable, so we consider a recursive estimation algorithm. The Expectation-Maximization (EM) algorithm has found increasing use in similar problems, however, for this case it is analytically intractable. Recently, a variant of the EM algorithm, called Space Alternating Generalized EM (SAGE), has been derived. In this work we apply the SAGE algorithm to the sequence estimation problem in a way which allows for simple sequential updates of the parameters. The resulting algorithm maximizes the penalized likelihood function, where the penalty is chosen to ensure good synchronization performance. Simulation results show that the algorithm has fast convergence, and essentially achieves optimal performance.

An application of the expectation-maximization algorithm to interference rejection for direct-sequence spread-spectrum signals

For a direct-sequence spread-spectrum (DS-SS) system we pose and solve the problem of maximum-likelihood (ML) sequence estimation in the presence of narrowband interference, using the expectation-maximization (EM) algorithm. It is seen that the iterative EM algorithm obtains at each iteration an estimate of the interference which is then subtracted from the data before a new sequence estimate i...

Optimum decoder for multiplicative spread spectrum image watermarking with Laplacian modeling

This paper investigates the multiplicative spread spectrum watermarking method for the image. The information bit is spreaded into middle-frequency Discrete Cosine Transform (DCT) coefficients of each block of an image using a generated pseudo-random sequence. Unlike the conventional signal modeling, we suppose that both signal and noise are distributed with Laplacian distribution, because the ...

Synchronization of Code-Spread CDMA Systems

Delay estimation of a code-spread code-division multiple-access (CS-CDMA) system using low-rate maximum free distance (MFD) convolutional codes for bandwidth expansion is studied. The MFD codes used, have a repetitive structure, which is utilized for non-data-aided synchronization. The repetition pattern of the code is optimized for good delay estimation properties, using an optimization criter...

Design of a High Range, High Efficiency Spread Spectrum Transmitter for Audio Communication Applications

This work proposes a direct sequence spread spectrum transmitter with high transmission range and efficiency for audio signals. It is shown that by choosing high process gain for spread spectrum signal the data could reach a range of 55km in the 2.4GHz ISM band. By employing a light modulation scheme, we have a relaxed SNR requirement for having a low bit error rate (BER) which translates to re...
